Chronicles of Arcenia

WHAT IS IT?

The Vision

The Role-playing game genre has taken many forms, and amongst several roleplaying communities has evolved into things that’d change the way many would see it. However, we plan on taking that a step further by incorporating the concept of Real-time strategy into the project. We’ve produced a dual game-mode vision that will distinguish itself by strongly honing on three core focal points:

Character Creation
Dynamic Worldbuilding
Environmental Sandbox

This project is intended to become an RPG-RTS hybrid on a large multiplayer scale by introducing both Champion and Syndicate Modes; taking a step back from a traditional PvP approach, for a more story-based aspect.

The Product

Surreality is intended to be a sandbox roleplaying game intended for storytelling and creative writing, however, multiple servers will be accommodated for both RP and PvP play respectively.

Game Modes

Champion Mode is the played perspective of the traditional RPG. You create and establish a single character for your playthrough, true to how standard RPGs function.
Syndicate Mode is the played perspective of the traditional RTS. You generate and establish a group for your playthrough, and operate the game similar to a standard RTS without a pausing function and moderate offline protections.

The traditional RPG experience of character creation and development is getting a twist in our projects. From a fully customizable spell creation system (so that no two characters may be alike), to an RTS game mode that dares to give birth to an entirely new genre of gaming.

Create your own character in Champion Mode that will become a moving piece in an ever-changing world. Every aspect of the character, a product of your initial design or aftermath of their interactions with the world around them. With no classes, nor grind — You’ll find yourself exploring and tinkering with the world around you, developing your character accordingly to improve upon skills or abilities of your choosing. Whether they live their lives adventuring the world of Arcenia or changing the course of its history is an entire of their own abode.

Relish in the in-game particle system that enables Live Spell Creation, allowing for characters to develop powers that may vary as wildly as you are willing to go. Push a step further by using the Trait system to differentiate yourself from others that roam the land. Sacrifice some of the boons of the commoner, to establish talents that’d leave no two individuals identical to the other. Then, shatter expectations with the Trump Card system, granting you the power to turn interactions with other players or aspects of the world into cinematic experiences that change the natural outcome of matters in your favor.

Become a unique part of the world, under the constant tick of a real-time age system that slowly pushes your character through their years, so that they may live a full life — but defy defeat to the passage of time, with the advancing technologies of surrounding settlements and written history that shall transcend the generations to come.

If living the life of a single character isn’t your cup of tea? Perhaps, you can travel as a caravan or establish a settlement in Syndicate Mode. Play as one of many driving forces throughout the world, by taking an overhead view of a gaggle of characters characterized under a single identity. Whether you become a band of merry traders, a daring ragtag group of bandits, or a fully-fledged settlement of denizens? Your actions shape the world everyone else shall partake in.

Establish economies around resources that you sought out to further build up your people. Build up military forces to keep your civilians safe! Dictate your governmental structure and build the literal structures that will both sate your people and the characters of other players that may align with you.

To the act and decision of every character, the world echoes in kind.

Experience a world that changes based on your decisions, from reactive and proactive AI behaviors in response to your tendencies, or that of those before you. Take upon overindulgence of resources, and find that they can be exhausted — or protect your environment to preserve the world around you. As time passes, your characters will age, meaning that their actions can transcend not only themselves but for generations. Play in Champion Mode and make your mark that can be preserved in the history books long after they pass on. Inspire those that succeed you to emulate your crafts or improve upon them. Start a lineage or a legend that procures cultures and traditions.

If playing the story of one doesn’t suit your taste? Play Syndicate Mode, and establish a people that transcend the generations themselves. Store accrued knowledge in libraries and study technologies to improve the effectiveness of your resource acquisition and the livelihood of your people. Change the land by your actions, or your structures — whether they turn out to be a bustling metropolis that persists through the ages, or ruins to be explored decades down the road. It all falls upon you.

People come and go, and cities rise only to fall. Whether you team up with various others or decide to brave it alone? The world will forever be different for it.

True Balance lies in Imbalance

Nothing is fair in the light of things. While some powers may be equivalent in potency, not all are equal. Tailor yourself across the world of Arcenia to deal with situations and even threats that may test one’s creativity, or simply demand proper judgment calls. In Champion Mode, you play as a single individual was incredible potential and power. However, despite this — some others may simply be capable of countering you wholly. Thus, it forces one to take upon the realization that not all encounters can be won through conflict. Some situations simply require strategy or talent. Others, simply are unwinnable.

A foe may be beyond a match for the common soul, but against a flying opponent? One may be rendered hopeless. Subterranean and underwater conflicts may prove trivial to some, but lethal to those who need the luxury of air to live. Different elements may affect you, your enemies, your allies, and your environment uniquely, depending on how it is applied.

Applying fire in conflict may be advantageous for maximizing damage, but can lead to plenty of collateral in the mix. One can just as easily incinerate their enemy, as they could start an uncontrollable forest fire that eradicates a nearby settlement’s resources. Winds can quell the issue of projectiles and even enable flight, but can also amplify and spread an opponent’s flames. Water can douse one’s self of applicated burning statuses, but also extinguish your own flames used on the environment or even your enemies. Targeted use of it, could even cut and cause bleeding to enable a host of other abilities.

Every instance applied can make or break a situation, forcing some to pick and choose their battles — If they can.

In Syndicate Mode, play as many of a people that have the advantage of numbers on their side. Harvest resources, but be careful not to deplete them without reimbursing them. Deforestation and endangerment of fauna are all direct consequences to acting without control. That, and growing your population without having controls upon the people to assure they are properly attended to, can prove to backfire with situations as mild as protests to as extreme to full-on rebellions and uprisings.

Rather than standard battles like your single-partied counterparts, conflict is much more strategized, with a real-time aspect applied. Establish and spread your military formations and order them accordingly to directly oppose, flank, ambush your enemies.
